Giovanni- A one-year old Italian Greyhound in Connecticut
Giovanni is currently in a home with two other dogs and his owner is finding three to be too many. Since Giovanni is her most recent addition, he is in need of a new home. Giovanni, who is fourteen pounds, is a supreme snuggler and loves to be with his person/people. He is housetrained to "go" outside in a fenced-in area, but does have occassional accidents; is crate trained; travels nicely in the car; rarely barks; and is good with children, dogs, and cats. Regarding being walked, Giovanni has a strong dislike for it - this can be addressed through desensitization and counter-conditioning so that Giovanni can, hopefully, enjoy going for walks. Preferences for Giovanni's new home are a five-foot high fence, no toddlers in the home, and a situation where he will not be left alone for long hours. If you are looking for a sweet, cuddly Italian Greyhound, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 6/9/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Giovanni to a fantastic couple who have had Italian Greyhounds for many years and have now welcomed Giovanni to their home, where he joins a young Italian Greyhound the couple obtained through a reputable breeder. Giovanni was adopted on 6/18/12!
Dylanne - A ten-year old Italian Greyhound in New York
Due to a change in home and work situations, Dylanne's owner is no longer able to provide him with what he deserves. Therefore, Dylanne is in need of a new home. Dylanne, who weighs eighteen pounds, is housetrained to "go" on a doggy training pad and during walks, and, except for some initial confusion after a recent move, Dylanne is accident-free. Although sometimes barking at large dogs and skateboards, Dylanne is good on leash and loves to go for long walks. He enjoys running after balls and sticks and, when in a safely fenced area such as a dog park, runs like a puppy. With the exception of large dogs, Dylanne is friendly with children, dogs, and cats, and has happily attended doggy day camp. This guy also loves to go for car rides. Dylanne is very loving and sweet and that is also what he needs in a person; someone with a loving personality that would enjoy going on long walks with him. If you are interested in Dylanne, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 6/4/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Dylanne to a wonderful, Italian Greyhound experienced man in Pennsylvania. Buddy has a fenced court yard to romp in, a near-by park, and a river to go for walks along. Dylanne was adopted on 6/16/12!
Polo - A four-year old Italian Greyhound in Virginia
With one baby and another due shortly, Polo's owners have made the difficult decision to rehome him. Polo is litter box trained and will occasionally also "go" outside in an enclosed yard. If his living space is small, his accidents are minimal or non-existant, but if there is alot of space i.e. a three-story townhouse, he will have more frequent accidents (if your home is spread-out, one solution would be to provide him with more than one litter box). When Polo needs to be left alone, he stays in an exercise-pen with a cushion, water, and his litter box. This guy is good with children, other dogs, and cats. However, since he tries to play with cats, and views their hissing at him as a sign that they REALLY want to play, a cat who wants to be left alone would not be the best companion for him. Polo's energy level is generally low when things are status quo, and increases if there is something new or exciting going on. He walks nicely on leash, travels well by car, and only barks at trash bags being shaken open or a ball, when thrown for him, bouncing off of a hard surface. Polo is loving, and totally enjoys cuddling on the couch with his people. He also loves being in a sunny spot, playing fetch, meeting new people and dogs, and going to doggy day camp. If not playing or snuggling with a person, he will cover himself with his blanket and relax. Polo also knows and responds to many cues such as sit, stay, come, go get it, leave it, and shake. If you are interested in welcoming Polo to your home, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 6/1/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Polo to a wonderful couple in Va where he has an Italian Greyhound companion, fenced yard, and gets to go to work with one of his humans. Polo was adopted on 6/13/12!
Poca- An Italian Greyhound puppy in New York
This precious girl was rescued from NYC Animal Care and Control by another rescue organization, and Italian Greyhound Place is assisting in finding her a home. Poca is now approximately five to six months old and weighs about seven to eight pounds. She is currently living with two other Italian Greyhounds, and totally enjoys playing with them. Therefore, a home with another small, playful dog is desired. Cats are also in her foster home, and Poca is also friendly with them, although often in a rough, playful way. This girl is very outgoing, jumping and wiggling her little but when meeting new people. If you are interested in a sweet Italian Greyhound, still full of puppy antics, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 5/18/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have been successful in recommending a fantastic, new home for Poca, and appreciates the opportunity to have assisted Poca's wonderful foster mom and K9Kastle. Poca was adopted by previous Italian Greyhound adopters in PA where she has lots of human companionship, Italian Greyhound buddies, and a fenced yard. Poca was adopted on 6/9/12!
Oliver - A young adult Italian Greyhound / Chihuahua in New York
Oliver has alot of energy, which is something that his current owners were not aware of when they got him. With their schedules changing, this mismatch in activity levels between themselves and Oliver is going to be exacerbated. Oliver is currently being provided with a minimum of thirty minutes of brisk walking or jogging, and an hour of dedicated play per day. With this activity, he remains playful, but manageable. Regarding housetraining, Oliver will "go" outside or on doggy training pads. When given the opportunity to "go" regularly, he is accident free, but, especially in a new home, attention and surveillance is recommended.
Oliver has shown some aggressive behavior, mostly growling, in four circumstances: (1) If he is moved when resting or when near food, (2) If he is having a potty accident, and is lifted, (3) If he has "stolen" food, and it is taken from him, and (4) If he is lifted into his crate. This is what has been effective for him: (1) If he is resting and needs to be moved, motivate him with a treat (he is very treat-motivated), (2) If he is having a potty accident, use his leash to bring him to where you want him to potty, (3) If he has taken food that he should not have, have him trade the item for a treat, or stay very calm and remove it from him with no "aggressive" body language, and (4) Have him enter his crate on his own through the use of a treat.
When Oliver needs to be left alone, he does best if left in a room with his crate open - he does not damage anything and generally relaxes in his crate. If left alone in his crate with the crate door latched, he will chew the blankets or whatever is in the crate. He does stay contentendly in his crate, with the door latched, at night.
Oliver is very affectionate and enjoys cuddling on the couch. He does tend to be calmer when only one person is present; when there are two people, he will often run back-and-forth and become more active. It is best not to let him become too excited, because it can escalate to Oliver growling and nipping - his adopter will need to work on this.
Oliver is a fifteen pound, young adult who is quite extroverted with people he meets; is good with other dogs and enjoys playing chase with them; barks at cats; has gotten along fine with visiting children; although he should not be placed in a home with children due to his current behavior; and is very good in the car. When not expending his energy, Oliver loves to snuggle and is an affectionate lap dog. If you are interested in an energetic, cuddly, canine companion and are prepared to provide Oliver with physical and mental stimulation, while working with him on his behavior, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 4/28/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Oliver to a wonderful woman in New York. With prior dog experience, an understanding of the needs of energetic dogs, and a willingness to work with Oliver, she has welcomed him to her home. Since Oliver's adopter works from home, Oliver will receive lots of human companionship, and will also have the company of another dog. Oliver was adopted on 5/10/12!
Franklin and Laila - One-and-one-half year old Pug / Min Pin mixes in New York
Due to a change in pet policy where Franklin and Laila live, they are in need of a new home together and, since the grace period has lapsed, this needs to occur as-soon-as-possible. Franklin and Laila (19 and 15 pounds respectively) are affectionate, funny dogs who love to cuddle and play. They are also energetic (and capable jumpers); friendly with dogs, cats, and children (although they take a little while to become comfortable); crate trained; and good in the car. Although housetrained to "go" outside and on dog training pads, they do have occasional accidents. Both are accustomed to the leash, but need to learn not to pull. However, both Franklin and Laila are smart, food motivated, and eager to please, which, along with consistency, will assist in training, including loose-leash walking. If you are interested in adding some amusement and affection to your home, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed here 4/4/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Franklin and Laila to a very welcoming family in NY. These two will have lots of human companionship, will not have to be left alone each workday, and will be going for walks on the rail trail next to their new home. Franklin and Laila were adopted on 4/28/12!
Barkley- A four-year old Italian Greyhound in New York
This sweet boy, who is in the care of Italian Greyhound Place, turned four-years old this month and weighs thirteen pounds, although he does need to gain a bit of weight. Barkley is quite active so will do best with someone willing to provide him with lots of exercise and mental stimulation. He loves to play tug-of-war, enjoys stuffies, likes to engage in an occasional game of fetch, and finds sprinting in the fenced yard lots of fun. On walks, his loose-leash manners are good, needing only an occasional reminder not to pull. This guy is trained to "go" outside and has been accident free. He has vocalizations mastered, and enjoys "talking" to you and sharing vocally. He is not much of a barker though, generally only barking when playing with another dog. When Barkley has had his fill of exercise, he enjoys cuddling with a person or relaxing near another dog. If you are interested in an active, amusing, sweet Italian Greyhound, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 4/12/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have rescued, fostered, and rehomed Barkley to an Italian Greyhound loving family in New York, where Barkley has lots of human attention, two Italian Greyhound companions, and a fenced yard to play in. Barkley was adopted on 4/27/12!
King- A one-year old Italian Greyhound in New York
With a new baby and another dog to care for, King's owners find that they do not have sufficient time or energy to meet his needs, and would like him to receive more love and attention than they can provide. Weighing twenty pounds, King is handsome and regal in stature and, like any sized Italian Greyhound, loves to curl up on his person's lap and cuddle. Although content to snuggle and relax, King also likes to go for walks (needs some loose-leash training), get some daily sprints in, play fetch, and toss his toys around. He is quick to learn new tricks and enjoys showing off his talents! King is housetrained to use dog training pads and is accident-free unless his potty area is obstructed by something; is not crate trained, but is accustomed to staying in a 5' x 3' area when left alone (he has also been fine with free range of the home); and is good in the car. He is great with dogs, interested in cats, and gentle, but clumsy, with babies. Being startled by a loud sound, or a stranger entering the home without greeting him will elicit a bark, but he is not a big barker or yapper. More than anything, King's owners think that he would like to have his own person to bond to. If you are interested in being that person, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 4/12/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of King to two fantastic, previous Italian Greyhound owners in NY. Along with his two human companions, King will split his time between city living (with a park next door) and his Cape Cod home with a fenced yard. King was adopted on 4/21/12!
Albert- A four-year old Italian Greyhound in WA
Albert's home situation has, and is, changing. His owner went back to work, the two-year old child is taking attention that had been given to Albert, and the family is moving. Albert is housetrained; he has a paper-lined litter box and goes outside. However, since his owner returned to work and he has received less companionship, he has taken to marking one spot in the house, something he never did before. Albert is crate trained, but prior to his latest behavior, was given free roam of the house when left alone. Although Albert is taken on walks/runs, he does need some training with loose-leash walking. He is good with children; submissive with other dogs, but loves to play with them; good with the resident cat, but will chase other cats; loves to go for car rides; and is not much of a barker, only occasionally barking at a cat outside or a strange noise. Mostly calm and sedate, Albert will have a few energy spurts per day where he will play with squeaky toys or he and the cat will chase each other. He loves people and truly enjoys snuggling on a person's lap. This 17.5 pound guy is extremely sweet and will probably do best in a home where he does not need to be left alone each day or where there are other dogs. A fenced yard would be desirable - he is fast and, if given the chance, will run. If Albert sounds like the canine companion you've been looking for, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 3/18/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Albert to a woman in Washington who loves dogs and is studying to become a veterinarian assistant. Albert was adopted on 3/26/12!
Trevor and Trixie- Ten-year old Italian Greyhounds in OH
Trevor, who is twenty-five pounds, and Trixie, who is approximately eight pounds, need a new home together; their male owner, who adores them, works alot and, unfortunately, his wife is not a "dog person." Trevor and Trixie are housetrained and have very infrequent accidents, although, as with any change in environment, their adopter should supervise closely at first. Both are good on leash, fine in the car, and excellent with children; Trevor is quite submissive with other dogs, whereas Trixie tends to be dominant; Trevor has not been around cats, but Trixie is fine with them; both need and enjoy exercise, but are also content lounging around; and neither are crate trained, but are accustomed to staying in a small room with couches when left alone. Trevor tends to be a bit skittish with unfamiliar people, but eventually becomes comfortable. Trixie, on the other hand, tends to love all people and is the more cuddly of the two. If you are interested in sharing your love and home with Trevor and Trixie, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 1/6/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Trevor and Trixie to a wonderful couple in Missouri who, along with their other dogs, including two Italian Greyhounds, have welcomed Trevor and Trixie into their hearts and home. Italian Greyhound Place thanks the fantastic woman who put Italian Greyhound Place in touch with Trevor and Trixie's adopter and even transported the dogs to their new home.
