Buddy- A seven-year old Italian Greyhound in Pennsylvania
Since Buddy's original owner passed away, Buddy stayed with a relative, then in a home where he got along with all the dogs except for a five-pound poodle who he would not leave alone (Buddy is neutered, the poodle is spayed), and is now in a home with one other Italian Greyhound.
Buddy, who weighs twenty-four pounds, is housetrained, will bark when he needs to go out, and is accident free in his current home. He is not much of a barker, only barking once or twice to alert that someone has approached the door, or when he needs to go outside. This very sweet boy has an easy to enjoy energy level, ready for a walk when you are, and content to relax afterwards; is friendly; and enjoys cuddling with his person on the sofa. Buddy travels nicely by car, has been fine at the dog park, and is good when left alone with free range of the home.
When on-leash and another dog is seen, Buddy becomes very excited. If his owner has him sit until the other dog passes, Buddy will "bay" until the other dog does so. If he is allowed to greet the dog, he is fine. Buddy also reacts to some bicycles, and has a tendency to chase squirrels. Buddy's current owner is finding Buddy's on-leash, reactive behavior difficult to deal with, especially since other dogs are difficult to avoid in his neighborhood. However, this behavior can be addressed through desensitization and counter-conditioning (I will be glad to provide information regarding this). Buddy needs an adopter willing to assist him with his on-leash reactivity, and a home out of the city, preferably with a fenced yard, might be best for this handsome, gentle guy. If you would like to welcome Buddy to his forever home, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 7/5/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Buddy to a caring, Italian Greyhound experienced man in New York. Buddy has another Italian Greyhound companion, a yard to romp in, and a human willing to work with him. Buddy was adopted on 8/12/12!
Max- A one-year old Rat Terrier / Pomeranian in New York
According to DNA testing, Max, who weighs about twenty pounds, is a Rat Terrier / Pomeranian mix. Whatever the case, he is a great dog. Due to no dogs being allowed in Max's original home, he was taken in by a family with four young children. Although Max is terrific with the children, the adults realized that, with their busy household, they cannot provide Max with the attention that he needs. Therefore, Max is temporarily staying with a senior family member, but needs a home more suited to his active nature. Max is housetrained and accident-free in his current home, not much of a barker, not a digger, travels nicely by car, and is good with children. He does initially pull on-leash, but then settles down. This guy is smart (already knows basic commands), friendly, well-behaved, curious, and loving. If you would like to open your heart and home to an energetic, little dog, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. . (Listed 7/5/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Max to a very welcoming couple in New York. Max has a fenced area to run and play in, a waterfront park within walking distance of his home, and people who plan on spending lots of time with him. Max was adopted on 7/16/12!
Meeko- A one-year old Italian Greyhound / Sheltie mix in Missouri
Meeko, who weighs sixteen pounds, is a very sweet boy who enjoys playing, but is also very content to be snuggled next to you. He has a tendency to be shy, is very fast, is good with children and other dogs (has not be around cats), and is, overall, a fairly calm guy. Meeko is housetrained to go outside, but does have occasional accidents related to the weather; in Italian Greyhound style, he does not like to get his feet wet and is not a fan of cold weather (it would be best to go out with him to ensure that he does what he needs to). He does not mark in his current home, but attempted to when first entering another home. Therefore, as is always recommended, he should be supervised until acclimated to his new surroundings. Meeko is not accustomed to being walked on a leash, but with some training he should do fine, and has a tendency to become carsick - there are some approaches that can be taken with this. If you are looking for a sweet companion who loves to be with his person/people, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 3/16/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is pleased to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Meeko to a woman in Missouri who has always had dogs. In addition to his new human, Meeko has a twenty-three pound canine companion. Meeko was adopted on 6/24/12!
Jerry - A three-year old Italian Greyhound in New York
Jerry is a handsome, young, thirteen pound, sweet Italian Greyhound, but he is not housetrained, although he will often bark when he needs to go out. Therefore, he needs a new home willing to accept and work with him on this (housetraining information). He also needs a home without small children because he tends to be scared of them and will get nippy. Jerry has a high level of energy, is good on leash, is crate trained, and is good with cats and dogs. His current owner is requesting that an adopter have a fenced yard. If you are looking for a loving Italian Greyhound and are willing to patiently work with Jerry on his housetraining, please contact Italian Greyhound Place. (Listed 5/5/12)
Italian Greyhound Place is please to have arranged and facilitated the adoption of Jerry to a very caring woman in Connecticut with both Greyhound and Italian Greyhound experience. Jerry has a fenced yard, an Italian Greyhound companion, and a loving human who has the summer (and school holidays) off. Jerry was adopted on 6/22/12!
